Lent

The fourth window symbolizes Lent , the season of forty days between Ash Wednesday and Easter. Biblically, Lent remembers the time of trial and preparation Jesus underwent before commencing his ministry on earth. Within the Christian Church, Lent has evolved from a time of fasting to a time of prayerful reflection and discernment. The magnificent tide of purple in this window recalls the penitential nature of Lent and captures the inevitable flow of baptism’s waters.

The two Lenten windows were donated in loving memory of Herb and Helen Hutchinson by their family. In many ways Herb and Helen represent the tremendous commitment and witness of members who saw the church through a great period of growth following World War 2. They served the church and community in numerous ways. Together they made an immeasurable contribution to Charleswood’s ministry and reputation as a family and neighbourhood church.
