Dear Friends

Welcome to worship for Sunday, February 15, 2026.

This past Tuesday the unthinkable, yet far too familiar, came to the serene, beautiful, mountain community of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. Having killed two family members at home, an 18-year-old entered the local secondary school and in a shocking display of evil and grievous violence, killed six more victims and injured 27 others. This entire community has been thrust into the deepest sorrow imaginable.

While a time may come to provide tangible aid to these hurting people, and to ask questions of how and why, we immediately seek to support them in spirit and hold them in prayer. We do so out of our common nationality. This offence is shared by everyone who calls Canada home and is horrified by such behaviour.

We support them out of our common humanity. The people of Tumbler Ridge are living through a nightmare that no community should have to experience. Something no one can predict, and no one can adequately prepare for. And we pray out of our belief that these are God’s beloved children and the healing and comfort they need is more than human hearts alone can provide.

Our creed calls upon the church to seek justice and resist evil. The evil that has been visited upon Tumbler Ridge can only be defeated by a love that is even greater. May our love for them add a small amount to their comfort and peace.

Grace and peace,

Michael
