Dear Friends

Welcome to worship for Sunday, December 7, 2025.

This week is White Gift Sunday. At Charleswood we use this tradition to generate gifts and enthusiasm for our annual Christmas Hamper Program. Our goal this year is fill and deliver 57 hampers to families whose names are provided by the Christmas Cheer Board of Winnipeg. They are filled with a week’s worth of groceries including a chicken or turkey for Christmas dinner. Toys are wrapped and provided for all children 12 years of age and under and as our esteemed convenor Jenna told us in church last Sunday, most of the people our hampers serve are children.

It’s not too late to contribute to this year’s effort. Donations are gladly received until the end of the year. In spite of the rich harvest of donated foods that we will dedicate on Sunday (which has been coming in for several weeks now), a lot of what we need must be purchased to ensure every receiving household has an equal and fair amount. All steps of the process, wrapping, packing and delivery have enough volunteers. Thank you!

To show support for our Hamper Team and with the deepest gratitude for the effort of our whole community, I offer an utterly forgettable ditty, sung to the tune of “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”.

It’s beginning to look a lot like hampers

Everywhere you turn

There are goodies with crunchy bits

Scarves and socks and mitts

With candy canes and chocolate added in

It’s beginning to look a lot like hampers

Soon the day will come

When the hampers in this place

Are delivered as gifts of grace

To someone’s own front door

Yes it’s hampers once more

It’s beginning to look a lot like hampers

Toys are piling up

And our people are coming in

To sort and wrap and then

Fill the boxes, cartons, Santa bags, and more

It’s beginning to look a lot like hampers

Soon the day will come

When the hampers in this place

Are delivered as gifts of grace

To someone’s own front door

Yes it’s hampers once more

Grace and peace,

Michael
