Dear Friends, Welcome to worship for Sunday, July 3, 2022. What are your summer plans? This seems to be a common question this time of year. It is a little paradoxical I think, since one of summer’s best qualities is that ‘plans’ don’t matter as much. Nonetheless we have some summer plans at Charleswood United Church that we would like you to be aware of. I am going to have four Sundays off from July 17 until August 7 and am looking forward to a little downtime to go along with plans for a touch of golf and tennis. We will have guest preachers at the in-person services those days and I am immensely grateful to my colleagues who will be sharing their wisdom and experience with all of you. The online services will continue through the summer on our YouTube channel. They are actually being planned now. They will take a slightly different format and will include an “Introduction to the Bible” in four sessions. Think of it as Adult Vacation Bible School delivered to your backyard, TV, porch, cottage, or wherever you wish to watch church in the summer. Please be aware of this year’s first Healing Farm Farmer’s Market in support of Winnipeg’s Yazidi Refugee Community. The Farmer’s Market will be held Sunday, August 21 from 9:00 to 12 noon in the parking lot. As we began last year there will also be a selection of foods from local sustainable producers and a few craft tables sharing the space. Our Mission and Social Action Committee invite you to plan make the start of school a little easier for some families in need. Throughout the summer we will be collecting school supplies from the list provided. Feel free to drop off at the church during summer office hours which are Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 2:00. See list here: https://charleswoodunited.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/2022.07.-School.-Supply.-Drive.pdf Our Children’s Ministry Director Rosalie is making plans for a two-day end of summer Vacation Church School. Please visit the poster here and don’t forget to tell your young friends: https://charleswoodunited.org/wpcontent/uploads/2022/06/VBS-Poster-1.pdf Throughout the summer we are living in hope that September will meet us in familiar ways. We are anticipating that ‘normal’ will show itself this fall in fellowship, hospitality, children’s ministry, Senior Choir, youth events, programming, and any thing else that the pandemic altered or put on hold. It’s going to be exciting. And maybe even a bit tiring. Better get some rest this summer!!! Grace and peace, Michael
